It's-a me
So, I seem to have ever so slightly bought a Nintendo DS. I got a pretty decent bundle from Gamestation, including The New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart DS. I also bought Sonic Rush and Burnout Legends, the former because I've never actually owned a copy of a Sonic game, and the latter because I've played the PSP version and it's pretty fun to play.
I'm still a PC gamer, but I know I'm not the only one to think the 'big' formats are getting a bit too serious. Sometimes I don't want an immersive game experience to play for hours at a time, I just want to pick up something and have fun. It seems like Nintendo understands this market need ill-served by other gaming platforms, as they're heavily pushing the segment, both in terms of marketing output and number of releases. I'd buy a Wii but with no supported VGA output I wouldn't be able to see it. But the DS is fairly popular, and it has internet play, and as it turns out it's a cool device. It takes me back to the days of everyone in the playground having a Game Boy, which is Nintendo's other marketing emphasis.
The gameplay is very Game Boy-like, in fact. Although the touchscreen enables a new mode of interacting with a game, the game developers haven't obsessed over it, and on the traditional platform and racing games I've tried, gameplay almost exclusively uses the hardware buttons and almost entirely takes place on one screen. I see this as a good thing.
Anyway, the main point of this post was to get any DS owners among my readers to come out of the woodwork. Post comments recommending me some good games! Email me your DS friend code and we can arrange a game.
